The
Employeneurs of TMC Physics are strongly driven by content. Physics has over 60 Employeneurs and they are internationally orientated, come from different cultures and are critical by nature. These are traits our customers like to put to their advantage.
It is our ambition that the solutions our people come up with, offer our customers the competitive edge. Problems relating to physics are our passion; the solutions are what drive us.
TMC Physics works for
Philips,
ECN and
TNO, amongst others.

These people must be trained up within a short period of time: specialists, who also have a big dose of general knowledge. At TMC I find the right people.

Project: Breakthrough in solar energy
On the one hand this source is inexhaustible, on the other hand it is a form of sustainable energy. The best known method to use direct solar energy, is by way of photovoltaic cells, otherwise known as solar cells. They transfer the energy from sunlight into electrical energy. Globally, large investments are being made in research into improving the yield of solar cells, (cost) effective production methods and alternative carriers and areas of application.
Some years ago TMC also began deploying its solar expertise for various clients. One of those clients is Helianthos, where Martin Brok, senior consultant for TMC Physics, is currently a part of the team. Helianthos is developing a unique process for the production of flexible solar cells, resulting in numerous applications. In contrast to the well-known, but more rigid solar panels, these flexible panels can be placed on curved surfaces, roofs, facades and sound walls, without the need for invasive constructions. This way Helianthos is trying to make solar energy more appealing for the end-user. “Eventually we will need alternative energy, whether that be in the form of solar cells, or not,” according to Martin Brok. “Fossil fuels (oil, gas and coal) are running out. Besides, they emit large amounts of CO2. I believe solar power has a great chance of becoming the main alternative source of energy. It is, after all, clean energy.”
In his current role as project leader and consultant on diagnostic methods, Martin Brok is developing in-line diagnostic equipment, in close collaboration with technology partners. Initially, together with the Helianthos-team, he analysed which processes and accompanying parameters contain the most relevant diagnostic information. In consultation with the Helianthos-team he composed a short list of most important parameters. Using this, a thorough supplier selection process was started. The extensive network Martin built up earlier in his career with Philips and ASML proved very useful.
Now we have reached the stage in which it must become apparent whether it is worth producing. “In the course of 2010 there is an important milestone coming up”, Martin explains. “We must achieve the yield and efficiency, determined beforehand. This is a very exciting and very challenging period for us: it is the moment of truth. The unique production process allows us to achieve higher efficiency and lower costs per KwH than our competitors. At present almost all the diagnostic equipment has been delivered and integrated. It is now time to harvest. The first results have indicated clearly where Helianthos can further increase the yield”, says Martin Brok. “We really are making headway now. It is wonderful to work on a product you fully endorse and to be able to contribute to a cleaner environment at the same time.”

Consultant TMC Physics
After my studies in Technical Physics I worked in the semiconductor industry for 14 years (ASML, NXP). An interesting and eventful sector.
As an engineering manager of a waferfab I had got to know TMC as a customer. I knew it to be a fine organisation, where motivated and knowledgeable people work. When I was looking for a new job myself, TMC was an interesting option for me.
I feel one of TMC’s strongest points is its network. On the one hand TMC has been successful in gaining and maintaining relationships with a multitude of companies and organisations. This network offers new and interesting opportunities. In addition, there is the internal network. Many knowledgeable people with a wide range of experience work for TMC. There is always one of your co-workers who can help you along in a certain area.
